This is the location of Fort Hays. This is where the Federals made their move during the Battle for Jerusalem Plank Road. This maneuver was made in order to stretch the defenses of Petersburg to the West and cut off the Weldon Rail Road. This attack was also supposed to be a diversion so that Wilson and Kautz could slip away on their raid of the Southside and Danville Railroads.
